Tutte le danze cosiddette classiche dell'india derivano da tradizioni di danzatrici del tempio oppure di cortigiane (il kathak in questo caso). La danza odissi era fortemente legata al culto del tempio di jagannath di Puri e questa non è una lettura 'orientalista' anzi è il contrario. Queste tradizioni templari (come odissi e bharata natyam) e di corte matrilineari come kathak (non ataviche ma con radici antiche perché templi e cortigiane ci sono sempre stati e sono sempre stati legati a musica e danza) sono state cancellate e rinnegate sanscritizzando e rimandando tutto ai veda senza dubbio, però le danze dei templi erano legate al culto anche precedentemente, magari non nella modalità purista che si idealizza. Diverso è il discorso per il kathak che è stato effettivamente induizzato nel XX secolo. Tra l'altro tutte queste danze hanno preso il nome attuale quando sono state 'riadattate' e borghesizzate per assecondare la proaganda nazionalista. Una cosa che, invece, non mi è chiara è come il mito di Durga venga letto come rappresentazione del prevalere della religione arya su quella tribale. È vero che molti miti puranici si possono leggere in questa chiave, ma Durga non mi risulta essere una dea rigvedica collegabile direttamente al culto arya. Anzi, la religione Arya mi risulta essere molto incentrata su divinità femminili in generale. Forse ci si riferisce alla stratificazione di culti attestabile in fase puranica che a sua volta prevale su culti tribali?
